Between her “velvet mezzo- soprano sonic cushion” (San Diego Story) and her “sly lyricism” (Opera News) Natalie Lewis is a capturing presence on stage. Natalie has dazzled audiences with her portrayal as The Third Lady in Die Zauberflöte, Marcellina in Le Nozze di Figaro, and most recently Mistress Quickly in Falstaff. Natalie has participated in numerous summer young artist programs including Houston Grand Opera’s Young Artists’ Vocal Academy, Opera Neo, the American Institute for Music Studies in Graz, Austria, and Aspen Music Festival where she got the chance to work closely with Renee Fleming and Maestro Patrick Summers as a Felming Artist. A competitive artist, Natalie has won the New York District round of The Metropolitan Opera’s Laffont Competition in 2022, placed first in the New England Regional NATS Competition, and was awarded the DIrectors Award in the James Toland Vocal Competition.
In 2017 Natalie graduated with her BM from the University of Massachusetts: Amherst where she was awarded the Howard Lebow Award for excellence in performance, as well as the Dorothy Ornest Award for her successes in academics all under the tutelage of Professor William Hite. Currently Natalie is pursuing her MM in Vocal Arts at The Juilliard School where she was awarded the Kovner Fellowship studying with Kevin Short. Since beginning her studies at Juilliard, Natalie has covered in four of their operas adding the roles of Nutrice from Luigi Rossi’s L’Orfeo, Baba the Turk from Stravinsky’s The Rake's Progress, Frau Reich from Nicolai’s Die Lustigen Weiber von Windsor, and Irene from Handel’s Atalanta. She was also invited to sing with chamber orchestra in The Juilliard School’s Spring Gala.
In her final year at Juilliard Natalie has been awarded many performing opportunities including performing alongside Vocal Art’s artistic director Brian Zeger in his Songfest concert performing Mahler’s Ruckert Lieder and selections from Wolf’s Italienisches Liederbuch, participating in maestra Speranza Scappucci’s masterclass, singing in Pierre Vallet’s Liederabend, and performing the roles of Zita and La Zia Principessa in Juilliard Opera Theater’s Puccini double bill of Suor Angelica and Gianni Schicchi. Outside of her Juilliard performances, Natalie will be making her Carnegie Hall debut in April 2023 singing the Alto solos in Marianna Martines’ Dixit Dominus and Bela Bartok’s Three Village Scenes. This coming summer Natalie will attend the prestigious Merola program of San Fransco Opera where she perform the titular role in Britten’s The Rape of Lucretia.
